This Ardmore resident gets a new front porch full of function and southern charm.

Have you ever just wished you had a special outdoor space where you could sit back, relax and just take a few minutes to stop and smell the roses? This Ardmore homeowner decided it was time to do just that at her Winston Salem, NC home. Her recent retirement left her more time to spend with her beloved dog, and more time to enjoy more of life’s pleasures. She decided to contact Archadeck of The Piedmont Triad to design and build a front porch to while away the hours enjoying the view and mild southern temperatures at her lovely home.

Front porches represent the epitome of laid back southern living and southern charm. The popularity of the front porch can be seen throughout the history of architecture and is one of the most adored features of what makes a house a home. A front porch or portico can change the entire facade of your home and conveys a sense of welcome and warm hospitality to all that enter. With this particular project a front porch addition heightened her homes curb appeal, and enhanced the entire design of the exterior of her home.

Before front porch addition

This is the front stoop and stairs before the front porch was added.

When we initially met with this Winston Salem homeowner, she had an existing front porch that in essence was only a front stoop. Her concrete porch consisted of a concrete steps and stoop which had settled over the years resulting in an unsafe, non-functional space. The existing space also lacked curb appeal and offered no room for function. The homeowner desired a larger, updated space to allow room for her and her pampered pooch to sit on the porch together, along with an easy chair or two.

The new front porch we designed and constructed for her involved expanding the functional area around the front door. We built the porch and complimentary pergola atop with pressure treated wood. The pergola functions as a shade structure offering some protection from the sun, and also adds style to the front of the home. The finished project gives the home a much needed facelift. This Ardmore homeowner is thrilled with the new outdoor space and the variety of activities it provides, her dog is also in awe of the new space.

If you have an existing space that is ready to be updated, or are ready to create a little slice of southern charm from scratch, contact Archadeck of The Piedmont Triad today to learn how we can create a space that makes you want to linger a little longer, and a space that makes the livin’ a little more easy.
